Our program is simple to follow and very flexible. We have One teacher One Student classes so students and teachers mutually decide from where to start. Tutor will assess the current level and will make the recommendation. At a pre-agreed time, teacher and student come online. With the help of Internet, they talk to each other and by using computer screen sharing software they can see the same lesson on their computer screen as their teacher have, during the class.
This task is not as easy as it sounds. In an Arabic dictionary, words are generally organized around three-letter roots. To look up a word, you need to know what the root is and what letter the root starts with – which is not necessarily the first letter in the word. Using the dictionary takes practice, but the sooner you learn it the better. It will make the entire process easier and more enjoyable.
Arabic (اللغة العربية) is an Afro-Asiatic or Semitic language closely related to Maltese, Hebrew, and Aramaic as well as Tigrinya and Amharic, and is spoken in an array of colorful dialects. Arabic is the official language of 26 Middle Eastern and North African countries spanning Yemen to Lebanon to the Sudan to Tunisia, it is an official language of the the Arab League, the African Union, NATO, and the United Nations, and it is the liturgical and intellectual language of Islam. People all over the world study Arabic for a variety of reasons: work, travel, family, heritage, religion, wanting to travel to an Arab country, marriage or friendship with an Arab, or simply as a hobby. To learn Arabic, determine which type you wish to learn, study the alphabet, get a good Arabic dictionary, and use some key language learning tools.
The Arabic language has played a major role in preserving human culture. Now spoken in 22 countries by 422 million people it has long been a major influence on humanity. It is also a universal language used by more than one and a half billion Muslims around the world, and one of the six languages of the United Nations, celebrated by UNESCO each year.... [-]
I don’t get it though. MSA (fusha) allows for structure. You learn how to conjugate (kataba), and how to derive words (K-T-B, for alkitaab, for instance), and you get far with learning less by heart. You say, only study a dialect. How?! Dialect is ‘made-up’. There are no rules. Very interested in the answer. I think you need to study MSA, and consequently, as early as possible, should switch to converting it to dialect.

For two main reasons : the first one because MSA strangely helped me learning 2-3 dialects very quickly by being a sort of “base” or “glue” on which I piled up my dialects, and the second reason is because my life would be miserable without books and news and written stuff. Talking with people is not enough 😉 And since everything written is in MSA, if I hadn’t learned it I would feel I missed on most of the things I loved in Arabic culture and the Arab world.

Being one of the oldest spoken languages on Earth, Arabic has a rich history and influenced different languages worldwide. For example, Maltese has been greatly influenced by Arabic. This is because the Arabs conquered Sicily, Malta’s neighbor island, in the 9th century. But Arabic also influenced the western world with words like “admiral”, “coffee” and “giraffe” which have Arabic origins.

The Prophet (pbuh) said: “Verily the one who recites the Qur’an beautifully, smoothly, and precisely, he will be in the company of the noble and obedient angels. And as for the one who recites with difficulty, stammering or stumbling through its verses, then he will have TWICE that reward.” [Sahih Muslim; another version of this hadeeth with a slightly different wording can be found in Sahih Al-Bukhaari].
Nils, you bring up a good point. I think the article was saying that speaking it as much and as early as possible is more beneficial and since MSA is more of a written language (in a sense), it is crucial to pick a dialect. I could be wrong, but that’s how I read it. I think I agree with the author on this. I’m still learning grammar, but I can speak quite a bit of Egyptian Arabic. God bless!
